Rolex Middle Sea Race – spectacular start to the sound of cannon fire
On Saturday 17th October 2015, 122 yachts from 26 countries ranging in size from 9.5 to 30.5 meters will have gathered in Malta for the spectacular start of this world famous yachting race in the sheltered waters of the Grand Harbour for the 36th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race. The Rolex Middle Sea Race is a highly rated offshore classic, often mentioned in the same breath as the Rolex Fastnet, The Rolex Sydney – Hobart and Newport-Bermuda as a “must do” race. The Royal Malta Yacht Club and the Royal Ocean Racing Club co-founded the race in 1968
Lee Satariano, skipper of winning crew 2014, together with co-skippers and the crew have already committed to the race in October. “Team Artie plans on being in the Valletta Grand Harbour for the start of this prestigious race and preparatory works are already ongoing on the boat. Team Artie’s participation in this race has been very successful with two wins so far and one second placing, however the level of competition increases each year which makes it even more challenging for all. Nevertheless we look forward to being part of the Race in October.”
The 698 nautical mile race will start at the sound of cannon fire directed from the Upper Barrakka Gardens perched on the edge of Valletta’s mighty bastions. The garden, which offers panoramic views on what is arguable one of the most magnificent natural harbours in the world, is an awesome outdoor venue for elegant MICE events – big or small. Put wind in the sails of your conference or incentive by letting us organize a yachting experience the Wednesday prior to the race during the heats. Delegates will enjoy sailing in Maltese coastal waters together with some of the world’s most beautiful yachts – an unforgettable experience!
As a quality assured, destination management company, we constantly seek new venues to host meetings, gala dinners and events. The Barrakka Gardens are one of many historical exclusive venues that may be used for your next event.
